Elliot Mason Solo from PBS Special

Elliot Mason Solo by Elliot Mason

Bear with me as this is something I recorded from a YouTube track, so it's not perfect. You can even hear me turn up my speakers. This guy is a monster player - in my opinion, one of the top guys right now. Enjoy!

Lebron James 60 Minutes Basket

This is pretty sick. Not even at the peak of his game...always nice to see a mastery at whatever craft they excel in.

“If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.”

From Betfair.com: 20 Pictures In Which Sport and Porn Collide

These are really fantastic pictures putting athletes in "awkward" positions while they are on their respective fields of battle. I'll attach one photo as it is of one of my all-time least favorite NFL quarterbacks. The rest you can find after the link. Enjoy.

Pictures from Vegas

Just wanted to share a few pictures from our Vegas vacation several weeks ago. Had a great time there; always a nice place to visit. However, the more I go there, the more I want to go somewhere quiet the next time. And cheaper too.

Reflective thoughts from the past two weeks

It's been an interesting two weeks in my life.

I was witness to my first-ever close-up look at divorce, thankfully not my own. My best friend got hit with the "I don't love you anymore; I want a divorce" speech. This is also with him coming home on leave from Afghanistan to take two weeks off and get some down-time, along with deal with his struggling marriage. Classy. Now, my best friend has major faults. And I know them all. He's been my best friend for 13 years. He is in no way, shape, or form, perfect by any stretch of the imagination. But he didn't deserve that. While I won't go into the gritty details, he did get screwed pretty hard. She didn't pay bills (and then lied about where the money was going), wasted money like it was going out of style...on and on and on. Ridiculous. With all things considered, he took it better than I thought. I never found him face-down in a gutter or anything, but I have to say, I have never seen anyone more destroyed in my entire life.

He returned to Afghanistan on Sunday morning in much better shape than we he was side-swiped by the unfortunate news. I think he learned some things about life and humanity over the two weeks. And who his true friends are. I'm glad to have been apart of his close friends and family to stand with him and pick him up. I do believe he has a fantastic opportunity, when he gets back, to settle down and get his own home, a new car and find someone who truly loves the quirks and gifts (mountains of them) that he offers to the world.

This also reaffirmed my wife and I's wedding vows. We both agreed that divorce is not an option, so instead, if things got really really bad, we will engage in Mortal Kombat (yes - like the game). I'll let you know ponder on that one...

Gig photos from Saturday night

This was the first official gig of this jazz/funk quintet that a friend of mine started. A very interesting setup with three horns (trumpet, tenor sax and bone) with drums and organ. A cool setup for sure. The gig could not have gone better. We had a full house that night. Even had a famous local jazz DJ in attendance who I hear enjoyed the show. I was happy with my overall playing but it really makes want to improve because I felt that things were lacking; mainly my faster jazz playing. I know that I can be overly critical of my playing but this should be a driving force for me to really make strides in my problem playing areas.

Here are a couple of photos from the gig that my wife took. Can't wait for the next gig.

A little funk for your life

Something along the lines of funk that I'd like to share to celebrate a nice jazz/funk combo gig I had on Saturday. Pictures and details of that coming later tonight (maybe).

Jon Siddle's Posterous

What you have stumbled upon is the random brain activity that takes the form of a guy who does IT/computer work during the day and is a freelance trombonist in the evenings.

You may not understand the brevity of what you could be getting into in reading this blog. Do you really want to listen to the ramblings of someone who has to deal with people's computer/printer/internet problems all day? And everyone knows what they say about trombone players...

You may find the random thoughts venture toward cigar reviews, writing, music, anything and everything Apple, productivity (or the lack thereof), South Park...the list could go on. You've been warned...
