Aren't you in for a treat...
This is audio from my Monday night gig I had this past week. It's rough but it is a nice version of the Maynard arrangement of Birdland. Had a lot of fun playing with that group that night.
A friend of mine has started up his funk group once again, now with an expanded horn line. We played our first official gig this past Saturday, benefitting those fighting Celiac's Disease. A nice crowd overall which seemed to enjoy the music. And for the first showing, the band performed well with a few minor hitches in the music, but nothing noticed from the crowd. I'll be looking forward to more gigs with this group in the future.
I was in a friend's wedding over the weekend pulling double duty as both a groomsman and assisting and playing in the big band for the reception. A great time for everyone! A very personal wedding for the bride and groom, the big band sounded great, and the open bar was enjoyed by all. Just some pics to share from that day and night.
I'll be sitting in with the Sessions Big Band tonight down at BB's Jazz, Blues and Soups. Starts at 8PM. Definitely worth checking out if you want to hear a great band.
This was the first official gig of this jazz/funk quintet that a friend of mine started. A very interesting setup with three horns (trumpet, tenor sax and bone) with drums and organ. A cool setup for sure. The gig could not have gone better. We had a full house that night. Even had a famous local jazz DJ in attendance who I hear enjoyed the show. I was happy with my overall playing but it really makes want to improve because I felt that things were lacking; mainly my faster jazz playing. I know that I can be overly critical of my playing but this should be a driving force for me to really make strides in my problem playing areas.
What you have stumbled upon is the random brain activity that takes the form of a guy who does IT/computer work during the day and is a freelance trombonist in the evenings.
You may not understand the brevity of what you could be getting into in reading this blog. Do you really want to listen to the ramblings of someone who has to deal with people's computer/printer/internet problems all day? And everyone knows what they say about trombone players...
You may find the random thoughts venture toward cigar reviews, writing, music, anything and everything Apple, productivity (or the lack thereof), South Park...the list could go on. You've been warned...
